Memory Drawing

Memory drawing which is included in art educational therapy (AET) can entail images on their own but words can be integrated with them in a variety of ways. In 2000, Ottarsdottir conducted a qualitative study which showed that, in general, people recall five times the number of words which have been memorized through drawings than if using traditional writing methods, when memorizing over an extended period of time. Memory drawings make it easier for individuals to memorize various coursework subjects, for example spelling, translations of foreign words and diverse facts, such as those related to geography. In addition to strengthening long-term memorization, the memory drawings can help individuals process emotions and life experiences by applying similar methods of art making as those used in art therapy.
